Hello,

What do I need to do to allow the templates to display what fields it is expecting in the visual editor? Doing some searching online reveals that the TemplateData extension is required for this but the visual editor tells me that I didn't provide descriptions so it doesn't know what to expect. I don't see that extension as enabled so I'm wondering if ShoutWiki has an alterative method and that is why I am seeing this message. --NinjaL1nk (talk) 19:20, 5 June 2023 (UTC)

I'll be 100% honest - I don't actually know. I've not spent long at all using VisualEditor either in preparation for deploying it here or editing elsewhere. We quiet released it as I spent a while trying to get it working on ShoutWiki at the Wikimedia Hackathon (and an evening when I got back) and managed to get it working finally, so I rolled it out for everyone to use. We know it was on people's wishlists, and as we hoped, 1.35 meant we could make it happen. We're aware there are some issues with some skins that we're looking into. I'll have a look a TemplateData to see if it provides the functionality you're after sometime this week. --Lewis Cawte (talk) ShoutWiki Staff 22:01, 5 June 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for the quick reply! I was very excited to see it. While I personally will probably not use it often, I do very much like idea of not having to memorize template parameters. --NinjaL1nk (talk) 22:21, 5 June 2023 (UTC)
Sorry it took so long - it's been... one of those weeks at the day job. I had a look and TemplateData does indeed look like the correct extension. I've enabled it globally, so you should be able to give it a go. Let me know if you run into any issues! --Lewis Cawte (talk) ShoutWiki Staff 19:01, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
