Sorry to bother you Solar, but do you happen to have a peace of code to change the color of the links on the Sidebar? --Lord Apeiron (talk) 21:02, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

Wikia[edit source]

Hello,

I am from the meme wiki, hosted on shoutwiki...We moved to wikia well because it has pre-made templates....and you don't have to cod them yourself. Yes, the wikia design is shit, and i have realised that, I am considering moving back to shoutwiki.

Thanks, I already read the instructions, but I can't seem to get my Autowikibrowser to log in. Maybe you could please make a bot for Autopedia? :) --Silver Knight (talk) 08:32, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Classicapædia[edit source]

Hi Solar Dragon,
I would like to ask you the reason you changed the name of the Classicapædia page to Classic Fiction because this French wiki (even if there are only 2 articles) is based on ancient French encyclopedia which are now on public domain? Can you explain where is the relation with Classic fiction? Thank you for your answer. Best Regards. --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 18:10, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

ah, sorry, I misunderstood. I thought that that was the name of the wiki and we go for the topic over the wiki name. I will move it back then. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 18:12, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for the reversal. ;-) --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 18:17, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Problem[edit source]

Hello, when creating a wiki I get the following:

Database error

Why can not create the wiki? Regards, --Randee (talk) 00:29, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

There is currently a problem with the wiki creation tool. This should be fixed within the next few days hopefully. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 07:37, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

Hello, I think the issue with the Wiki creation hasn't been solved yet. Will there be an announcement when it works ? Denys Corel (talk) 07:52, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Validator for Semantic Wikis[edit source]

Hi Solar,
Is it possible please to install the Validator extension release 0.63 on ShoutWiki in order to make all the Semantic wikis working proprely with Semantic MediaWiki (espcially mine)? Thank you very much. Best Regards. --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 17:39, 2 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi, according to the MediaWiki page, the latest version of Validator is 0.4.14 which was released in March this year. Jack's had a look as well and can't find a version 0.63 either so, unless you have a link to this version, we can't install that particular release. ☆The Solar DragonShoutWiki Staff 18:03, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
You are right, you can use the 0.4.14, this is the last version, I was mistaken about the number ;-) --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 18:17, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
I've installed git HEAD version of the Validator extension, which should be compatible with MediaWiki 1.19.0 according to its developer. Please let me know if you run into problems. --Jack Phoenix ShoutWiki Staff (contact) 18:50, 2 June 2012 (UTC)

Account creation[edit source]

some of my users are telling me they cant create accounts.

Wikisimpsons[edit source]

For some reason, I can't access Wikisimpsons and just keeps on loading. Is this a problem at my end, or is it something to do with the wiki? Phinbart - just one of the huge Bart fans! (talk) 15:03, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Nope, others are having the same problems, me included, which pisses me off as I want to look at our Monaco code to help me with a skin design. ☆The Solar DragonShoutWiki Staff 15:04, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
Have you emailed Jake about the problem yet? Or will the email be down as well? Phinbart - just one of the huge Bart fans! (talk) 15:10, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
Yes, I have emailed Jake. Not sure if email is down. If it is a problem with the server, there could be a problem with the emails too. Hopefully, it's only a problem with the wikis. ☆The Solar DragonShoutWiki Staff 15:11, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

I just typed de.simpsonswiki.net into the address bar and I got through after about a few seconds of loading. Same with Simpsons Fanon. Phinbart - just one of the huge Bart fans! (talk) 15:23, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
I tried it but got no connection. Chances are you are seeing the cached versions of the pages since they haven't been edited in a while. ☆The Solar DragonShoutWiki Staff 15:25, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
Looks like the wiki is accessible now. Phinbart - just one of the huge Bart fans! (talk) 17:32, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Something has happened again to Wikisimpsons. It says on every page I try to access, "Sorry! This site is experiencing technical difficulties. Try waiting a few minutes and reloading. (Can't contact the database server: Too many connections (localhost))" What's the problem this time? Phinbart - just one of the huge Bart fans! (talk) 16:48, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Not exactly sure but it hopefully isn't as bad as I think it is... I've emailed Jake. ☆The Solar DragonShoutWiki Staff 16:49, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Fish Hooks Wiki[edit source]

I'm waiting for a reply from you on your Fish Hooks Wiki talk page. Phinbart - just one of the huge Bart fans! (talk) 13:11, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

Oh, sorry. I looked at it briefly but had to go somewhere and forgot all about it after. It's something to do with the show/hide thing being used on its own. See here for how it was done on Wikisimpsons. Try adding a width or border = 0 or some other parameters and it should work. If not, contact me again and I'll have another look at it. ☆The Solar DragonShoutWiki Staff 13:14, 5 August 2012 (UTC)

Smash Wiki[edit source]

Are you from the Super Smash Bros. Wiki? Gazlene the Pork Girl (talk) 22:25, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

I was on SmashWiki for a few years but have since left the wiki. ☆The Solar DragonShoutWiki Staff 22:28, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
Yeah because I kinda have to tell you something. I'm CBFD from Wikia. I had a bad experience on Wikia and left Wikia. I don't want to make you mad, but Zim Wiki and IZFS made me hate Wikia now. Can I please stay? I haven't done bad things here. I will be good here. I promise. Gazlene the Pork Girl (talk) 22:48, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
If you mean stay on ShoutWiki, of course you can. The more users the better. ☆The Solar DragonShoutWiki Staff 22:51, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. I noticed this wiki needed help. You know me, right? I will try to help out. I also made a video game wiki if you're interested. It's supposed to compete with Encyclopedia Gamia of Wikia. Gazlene the Pork Girl (talk) 22:54, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

Favor[edit source]

I have a favor to ask you; could you please change the name of Video Games Wiki to Video Game Wiki? I don't need a plural. I was even stuck on the title during creating the wiki. Thanks. Also, I think the URL can stay. I don't know, it looks better than videogame.shoutwiki.com. All I want changed is the wiki name. If you could rename it to Video Game Wiki and all of the project pages, I'd much appreciate your help. Thank you. Gazlene the Pork Girl (talk) 02:42, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

[edit source]

Can you please help out with the Wiki logo on Video Game Wiki? I want it to look like a Wikipedia logo with the Wikipedia ball, but only with Video Game on top of the bottom side of the Wikipedia globe/ball and the word Wiki underneath the Video Game text. If you're not the person for this, please let me know who is. If you don't know what I'm trying to explain, please try to make an educated guess.

P.S. I noticed that Favicon and Wiki logos cannot support transparency. I would appreciate if you and the staff can fix this issue. I also don't like how gallery images aren't linked to the image if the image in the gallery does not exist.

So those are the things I need help with; a wiki logo and the two issues with gallery links and logo/favicon transparency. Gazlene the Pork Girl (talk) 00:25, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

You shouldn't use the Wikipedia logo as it is as that can be seen as a breach of copyright. I would come up with a unique logo if I was you, not copy Wikipedia's. Favicons should support transparency, the image just has to be transparent. If you link me to the original full size image you used for your favicon, I can make it transparent for you. As for the gallery images, that is a MediaWiki thing and there is nothing we can do about that. However, dead gallery images should appear in Special:WantedFiles as well if you want links to them. ☆The Solar DragonShoutWiki Staff 08:30, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice. Anyways, can you please try and come up with a different Video Game Wiki logo then? I'm having trouble designing my own and such. Here's the link to the favicon and here's the link to my wiki logo. Gazlene the Pork Girl (talk) 14:06, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
I need the link to the original full sized image you used for the favicon to make it transparent. ☆The Solar DragonShoutWiki Staff 18:02, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
The link. Gazlene the Pork Girl (talk) 23:07, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
Okay, I took your advice and changed the Wiki file in the top-left corner. It looks great, so you don't have to change it. Gazlene the Pork Girl (talk) 22:59, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

Help please[edit source]

So I have a request/favor of you to ask. This article has a notice that says "error creating thumbnail". Could you please perhaps try to fix this problem? Thank you. Gazlene the Pork Girl (talk) 23:11, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

Request for Bongo Comics Wiki[edit source]

Could you please delete Bongo Comics Wiki? I don't have a need for it any more. Gazlene the Pork Girl (talk) 23:05, 8 June 2013 (UTC)

It has been deleted. ☆The Solar DragonShoutWiki Staff 12:54, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
Okay, now can you please modify Mariopedia and Video Game Wiki to make the default skin Monaco? I would also like a visual mode for editing with Monaco, along with a source mode. Help would be greatly appreciated :). Gazlene the Pork Girl (talk) 15:32, 10 June 2013 (UTC)

Some help with tables.[edit source]

  • Hi! You told me you are good with tabes and if I have any questions about them I should come to you. I was hoping you could help me with a little problem I have been unable to figure out.

The backgroud of my wiki is blue and I want to use this collapsable thing on it which I set to also be blue-

But when I try to put it inside a table it turns white again like so-

The top part stays white no matter what I try.
These don't seem to work on this page for some reason but they do on my wiki. Just copy the text there and you'll see what it's supposed to look like. Here is the link. Do you have any idea on how to do this right? Hazelludas (talk) 22:23, 25 June 2013 (UTC)

It was the wikitable class that was making the parts be white. I made a page on your wiki called Test, located at s:w:badwebcomicswiki:Test. If you look at that code, it should be what you want. I've also cleaned it up a lot so that it uses less code. ☆The Solar DragonShoutWiki Staff 08:27, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

hello, this wiki http://awa.shoutwiki.com/wiki/Anti-Wikia_Alliance, not active since 2009 and we are going to 2014, so I ask you to remove the powers the founder if you can, give them to me to I will adopt my well said wiki.--Nacion del fuego100 (talk) 16:58, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

The wiki has a steward and administrators. You have not made any edits there. I would suggest you stop looking for wikis to adopt, create a wiki, work on it, and make into a great wiki. ☆The Solar DragonShoutWiki Staff 17:25, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

ok, but I like to expand wikis :), on the other hand, what are the skills of a staff? a staff can not take away the rank of bureaucrat to bureaucrat? in this case inactive. A greeting--Nacion del fuego100 (talk) 18:42, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

We can take away powers but I'm not going to as there will be no gain in taking away the powers. If the bureaucrat decides to return, they will want their powers when they do so. Work on a wiki first, expand it, then you may get powers. You're not getting the powers for the sake of having them. ☆The Solar DragonShoutWiki Staff 18:44, 23 August 2013 (UTC)

Well hello there.[edit source]

Fancy seeing you in a high-up position around these parts.

Anyway I've got a question. How often do specials such as WantedPages update automatically? On a wiki I made recentlyish I did a manual refresh just to fool with the feature about 2.5 days ago, and there's been no automatic updates since. I'm used to SmashWiki's rate of once a day, so I might be impatient, but I think for a fresh wiki it'd be auto-set to a low value, right? Toomai Glittershine 05:44, 3 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Yeah, I have a position of power here, although I'm too busy with other things to do much here any more. You have to use the special page Special:RefreshSpecial. I've refreshed them for you now but since you're a bureaucrat, you can refresh them yourself in the future. ☆The Solar DragonShoutWiki Staff 10:04, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
So automatic updating is completely disabled? Well, okay then. Toomai Glittershine 15:00, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
Yeah. It is a bit of a drain on our server. We found that this way, it would only be done when it was needed and wouldn't drain our server as much. ☆The Solar DragonShoutWiki Staff 15:05, 3 December 2013 (UTC)

Some help with my wiki's customization[edit source]

So, I got my wiki's look almost finished, but there are a few things I just can't figure out. You said I could ask for help, right? So, from most important to least important:

  • I'd like to change the color of the links in the sidebar, top and bottom, but not the ones in the main content. How can I do that? I've only found out how to change all of the links at once.
  • I'd like to have a bar thing, similar to that sidebar, on the bottom of the page. I haven't really designed it yet, but while testing with the top bar, I noticed it does not stay at the bottom of the page. Instead, it's at the bottom of the screen area (I left it there for now so you can still see it (It's behind everything, so it appears very little)). How can I make it stay at the bottom of the page?
  • Apparently, the "add to watchlist" button went missing... and I have no idea why (or when (or how it even looked like)). Can I make it reappear?
  • There's a thin blue border on the right of my main content block. There's also that gradient line next to the search bar in the top. Any way to remove these?
  • Also, is it be possible to move that ad in the sidebar a little more to the right, so it fits better in my design? This is mostly unecessary though, but if it was possible (and easy), why not?

Here's my code.

As I've said, I don't actually know much of CSS, so I may have missed something that's in fact quite simple, so thank you for any help you can give me.

By the way, thank you for those donut bullet points from your wiki! I'd never know such thing was possible... :D --Shenzai (talk) 06:59, 27 January 2014 (UTC)

Hello.
    • I've changed the sidebar link colours, you can change them to what you want now.
    • The bar you are trying to add in sounds like you are trying to change the entire skin design. I'm not sure if you can make it anchor at a different point on every page but it will most likely be only a certain way down every page, making it look off on every page as a result.
    • I have no idea why your watch star has gone. I've tried to force it back in but it failed. I'll ask about later.
    • I can't see a blue border on the right. As for the gradient next to the search box, that is a border, but I can't get it to go for some reason. >_>
    • Our policy is that you don't mess about with the adverts, not allowed to remove or move them about. Sorry.
    • Also, I've moved your code to Vector.css rather than Common.css. Vector is better for the Vector skin, whilst Common is used for changes over all the skins.

Sorry I couldn't be much more help. I'll ask another staff member later if they can help. ☆The Solar DragonShoutWiki Staff 08:56, 27 January 2014 (UTC)

Thank you! With that, I could also figure out how to change the link colors in the tabs and the personal bar in the top. But I can't seem to find the right classes for the footer and the sidebar menu titles (Tools/ShoutWiki messages).
As for the bar I wanted to add, it was just a background image, like the one behind the sidebar. I realized adding it as a backround to the footer instead of body would do it though, so that's solved. But in the end, it didn't look good, so I took it off. :P
And the border thing and the rest aren't really necessary anyway, I can live with them. :)
Thank you a lot, again! --Shenzai (talk) 03:08, 28 January 2014 (UTC)
Well, I've managed to get the footer right on my own. Yay! So, the only thing I'd need help with now are the "Tools" and "ShoutWiki messages" on the collapsible menus. I've tried a few times but couldn't get these right. They are not much important, though, I think I can leave them that way. Thanks for your help! :) --Shenzai (talk) 22:51, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
Try messing around with the #mw-panel.collapsible-nav .portal element. Also, if you have FireFox, find the thing you want to change, right click it and click "Inspect Element". It tells you the name of the CSS class for the object you want to change. ☆The Solar DragonShoutWiki Staff 23:11, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, I've been inspecting elements all around. I haven't tried that one before, but I've tried it now and I still couldn't make it work... --Shenzai (talk) 00:13, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

Russian Shoutwiki[edit source]

Hello. I'm the well known Internat user, here I founded the big russian project Wiki-world, wich has already got more than 4 000 articles. I came here to tell you, that Russian version of Shoutwiki was vandalised and the Main page was renamed to "Ass". Can you revert normal version? Thanks.--Mongol (talk) 22:25, 29 January 2014 (UTC)

Hello. Thanks for bringing this up. I've reverted the vandalism, protected the main page from editing and moving except by admins and disabled the vandal's account. ☆The Solar DragonShoutWiki Staff 22:36, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
Hello, can you please delete Wiki-world? Thanks.--Mongol (talk) 10:25, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
It has been deleted. ☆The Solar DragonShoutWiki Staff 22:31, 1 February 2014 (UTC)

Spanish ShoutWiki[edit source]

Can you validate Spanish Hub? thanks :) --DeviantSalens (talk) 23:12, 10 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I'm not Solar Dragon, sun dragon but what has not edited since 16 February, I answer your question: There are some wikis that are in Spanish, others in English. And the center is in other languages, but not in Spanish): I am Spanish and my birth tongue is Spanish and I would like for each wiki, there is a community in English and one in Spanish and then in other languages, I will not mention. Thanks in advance.--Libros (talk) 11:00, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Well, the central Spanish, do not know how it is, I prefer the English you because it has more content. Besides, did not create that staff will speak Spanish.--Libros (talk) 11:03, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Your AWB Regex question[edit source]

I can't edit ENWP but I saw your post at the AWB page. Its extremely hard to do dates do to all the variations that are possible. Here is some code for a module I made to delink and clean up some dates.

WikiFunctions.Parse.HideText ht = new WikiFunctions.Parse.HideText(true, false, true);
public string ProcessArticle(string ArticleText, string ArticleTitle, int wikiNamespace, out string Summary, out bool Skip)
 {
  Skip = false;
  Summary = "";
ArticleText = ht.Hide(ArticleText);
//
//delink month day combination
 ArticleText=Regex.Replace(ArticleText, @"(?i)\[\[(January|February|March|April|May|June|July|August|September|October|November|December)\s(\d{1,4})\]\]", "$1 $2");
//
//delink month piped to number
 ArticleText=Regex.Replace(ArticleText, @"(?i)\[\[(?:January|February|March|April|May|June|July|August|September|October|November|December)\|(\d{1,4})\]\]", "$1");

//Treat 'Sept' (i.e. month abbreviation) differently from 'sept' (i.e. family)
 ArticleText=Regex.Replace(ArticleText, @"(?i)\[\[January\|(Jan)\]\]", "$1");

 return ht.AddBack(ArticleText);
return ArticleText;
}

So its possible but I don't think its possible to do it with one piece of code without significant errors. I hope this helps. But please let me know if you have any questions. I can mainly be found at Military wiki, Commons and Wikidata. Reguyla (talk) 19:10, 9 October 2015 (UTC)

Hello I'm not Solar , but I'can help. This is a wiki , but a specific wiki? You need report this no to Solar Dragon , you need report this in this wiki , and the report , to the administrators of this wiki , but no to staff. But , in mi opinion , is not possible , copy the wikia code in a wiki of shoutwiki , because , wikia and shout wiki , is different. Regards in advance.

Logo Help[edit source]

Hello i'm new to shout wiki. I've uploaded a logo to my wiki but I didnt change i was wondering if you could help me?

Hi,
Is this still a problem? Sometimes it can take a while for the wiki to reflect changes to the logo due to caching. If this is still an issue can you link me to your wiki?
Best regards,
