IRC[edit source]

As you may be able to tell, we are currently having some issues with our IRC network. As such, we have set up an alternative channel on freenode (channel is #ShoutWiki). Once the normal network is back on-line, an announcement will be posted in the freenode channel. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thanks, --Skizzerz ShoutWiki Staff 20:25, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

21 characters for Wiki subdomain[edit source]

Sadly but the server still doesn`t allow to use 21 charactes for subdomain. See the screenshot: File:SPCANIME.JPG

Also - Didn`t you allowed to upload OGG files jsut this morning? I remember seeing this type as permitted at Special:Upload.
I will need to upload OGG/MIDI too.
Teyandee (talk) 15:43, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

All right - I have created first wikia: http://kyattounindenteyandee.shoutwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page
Thanks for help! I now have another question - It is possible to listen the ogg file on it`s page. Like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Accordian_chords-01.ogg?

Quick questions[edit source]

Hi. With regard to 90210pedia, I was wondering how I'd upload a logo image for the upper left corner, and how I might also upload a background image that would generally appear on all pages. I'd appreciate any advice. -- James26 (talk) 10:13, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your help. -- 14:18, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
Hi again. I've recently tried changing the background image but it appears that something hasn't worked. Is there anything more I should be doing? -- James26 (talk) 09:17, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. -- James26 (talk) 12:48, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

We've just had our articles imported over on 90210pedia. I'm very glad about this, but I've noticed that the background image doesn't repeat itself as a viewer scrolls down the page (example). Is there a way I can change this? -- James26 (talk) 21:29, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Actually, never mind. Just got the issue resolved with help from Michael. Thanks. -- James26 (talk) 00:01, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
  • Yes, I noticed as I was about to look into the problem. Glad to see the problem got fixed. --Jedimca0ShoutWiki Staff(talk) 00:17, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Do you know how I might change the colours of the text boxes and the text within on the main page? I notice different colours on WikiSimpsons, for example. Is there a way to change from the current blue-and-white set-up? I looked over the CSS but couldn't figure it out. -- James26 (talk) 03:42, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

  • Most wikis use templates and other code on their main pages to give them a slightly different look and feel compared to the rest of the site. View the source of the simpsons wiki main page (you can't edit the page because it is protected, but you can still view the text and code on it), and feel free to contact me if you need any further assistance. --Jedimca0ShoutWiki Staff(talk) 19:19, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

RE: Partial Importing[edit source]

Thanks for your reply. I am aware of using the Export/Import feature; the issue that arises is that copyright compliance with the terms of the license the wiki uses (CC-BY-SA 3.0 Unported) requires the full history of every page be imported, as Jack has discussed previously on his talk page. The problem that that poses is a huge increase in file size. For example, the largest single page that would need to be imported is wikia:c:cybernations:Großgermania. Exporting the full history of this page, without templates, produces a 35.1MB file, far larger than the 2MB you mentioned being allowed by Special:Import. This was the reason cited by Jack for having the technical team import wikis, rather than doing so manually for individual pages. vonPreußentalk

Ah, that's great to hear. I'll work on getting the framework set up tonight, then, and I'll forward you a list of pages I can't get up myself once I have them. Thanks for your help! vonPreußentalk
Sorry for the delay. So far, I've encountered the following pages which need importing to s:w:grossgermania:
In addition to these, there are an array of files that are in excess of the 2MB upload limit, including one OGG Theora and three OGG Vorbis files. Since these are more numerous and I was unsure if ShoutWiki would also be willing to import them, I didn't bother listing them here yet, but I would like to know if it would be possible. While many of the images could be scaled down to fit under the upload limit, the audio and video files pose a significant problem, since they do not have the same immediate capability, and the OGG container already compresses them considerably compared to other formats.
Thank you again for your time, vonPreußentalk
Passing the list on to the techs, they'll import it as soon as possible. I'll also ask about the files. --Jedimca0ShoutWiki Staff(talk) 17:37, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Greetings, fellow CN player. :)
I have manually imported the dump of those 5 listed pages. Regarding max upload size, I'll look further into it. It doesn't seem possible to increase the limit per-wiki (it's a global PHP setting), and cons of increasing it globally are outlined in discussion on bug #48. If I however figure out how to do that, what upload size would suit you? 10MB? 50? :)

Ok... removing those <div>s was one of the first things I did after copying the template to my private wiki this morning... I have no idea why it didn't work there, but... if it's fixed, I won't complain. Must have been a cache issue or something like that cause it looks fine on my wiki too now. The <abbr> tag is whitelisted (=allowed in wikitext) only since MediaWiki 1.16, but Wikia backported the change which allows the tag to their MediaWiki 1.15. Mistake[edit source]

Dang it. I made a mistake in the social tools. The Ford Focus is worth zero, but by signing up you earn 1500 points which means, a new user will always be a Chevrolet Silverado and never a Ford Focus. Could you please change the signing up from 1500 to 1000? --Silver Knight (talk) 01:52, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Also, How come the "send someone a gift" doesn't work? Please tell me how I could customize it. --Silver Knight (talk) 12:37, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Social tools[edit source]

Ok, I'm confused with the awards. Such as the Medal of Honor. The threshold is 2000, and yet everyone has it. Then, the Bronze Star's threshold is 250, and yet no one has it! I baffled. --Silver Knight (talk) 10:03, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
  • We have looked into that and can't find an explanation for that not working, as far we can see it should just work. If it keeps failing, feel free to file a bug report on our bugzilla. --Jedimca0ShoutWiki Staff(talk) 22:21, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

Patroller[edit source]

Do you have patroller rights at ShoutWiki? If so, please activate it at Autopedia. --Silver Knight (talk) 11:08, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

P.S. please give me the giftadmin awardsmanage rights because I'm a steward and superadmin on Autopedia. --Silver Knight (talk) 13:31, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
  • The Administrator right already includes those rights, see Special:ListGroupRights. I am not sure about the patroller rights, but I'll look into it. --Jedimca0ShoutWiki Staff(talk) 10:20, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
Okay, please look into it and please activate Check User rights. I'm planning a project called Vandal Fighter. A Vandal Fighter will get a tag. --Silver Knight (talk) 13:57, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
  • At this point we do not have the patroller rights, we currently do not have plans to include them in the future, but I will let you know if this changes. Plus, by browsing the recentchanges and the new pages vandalism, spam and other things are easily detected and undone.
About the Checkuser Rights, they are unfortunately staff only, this due to privacy concerns. But if you need a checkuser, staff us always willing to help with that. --Jedimca0ShoutWiki Staff(talk) 22:21, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

We will review the pages and move them to the proper help pages when they are done. Help page edits (declined)[edit source]

Hello, unfortunately I don't wish to help shoutwiki by becoming a help page editor, I have chosen to take my helping hands elsewhere, I have chosen to only edit Wikia's help pages as you don't need a silly little right to edit them. Vector[edit source]

I wanted to know how the Vector skin is going along. So when will it be released? --Silver Knight (talk) 02:47, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi! Last I heard from Jedimca on the IRC channel about Vector (which was either yesterday or the day before I believe, but my memory is terrible sometimes) was that it would be available as soon as MediaWiki on ShoutWiki is able to be upgraded to 1.16. And the upgrade can't happen until a few bugs are fixed as not to make ShoutWiki "go boom". By the way, I'm sorry if responding here instead of letting Jedimca would make either of you mad or if it's against any rules I may not have heard of. --Jbolte (Talk · Contribs) 03:17, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Dark theme[edit source]

Hi Jedimca. Could the monobook theme for Ice Hockey Wiki be set to dark? Thanks --Hockeyben (talk) 22:40, 3 May 2011 (MSD)

  • The default skin for the Ice Hokey Wiki is currently monaco, and we can currently only change the theme for the default skin. A possible solution would be setting monobook as the wiki's default skin instead of monaco. --Jedimca0ShoutWiki Staff(talk) 00:12, 4 May 2011 (MSD)

Ok then. Go ahead and set monobook as the default. Hockeyben (talk) 01:02, 4 May 2011 (MSD)

All right now, please calm down. Misza never seems to respond and Jedimca0 is not techincal staff. Staff are working on it. That is all you need to know. I'd like to see you try and fix it. Once staff make some headway on the issue, they'll tell us I'm sure. Just please try and be patient. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 21:21, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

How do you know there fixing it? Btw, I've been patient enough. 50 days? give me a break.--Silver Knight (talk) 02:03, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
Staff have said that they are trying fo fix it so they are doing so. It is a complicated operation to do so they might not be making much progress at the moment, therefore there is no update. I know that you are pissed off but you can't just go shouting at the community staff about this issue. If you are going to shout at any staff member (although I do not reccommend it) I would shout at a tech. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 06:27, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

Our techs are looking into the issue, so far everything they're trying has failed. So there is no good news and no bad news either, that is why there hasn't been an update because despite our best efforts the situation is still the same.
I would also like to strongly recommend refraining from yelling and swearing at us, I understand your frustration but you also have to understand that the cause of this problem was not something we had any control over, we are as frustrated as you are and we are doing everything we can to fix this problem. --Jedimca0ShoutWiki Staff(talk) 11:09, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

Oh, I havent been blocked. Who was? Is silver knight global-banned? --Hockeyben (talk) 15:10, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

Nevermind, your response on my page was the same Q.Hockeyben (talk) 15:27, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

  • Yes, I'm sorry the message was confusing. But silver is blocked. I simply could not tolerate his recent yelling, screaming and insulting of staff and other users anymore. Should he calm down in the future and feel the need to talk about it, he is free to do so. But right now, I have nothing to say to him. You, and autopedia, however are still welcome to ask any questions you may have. Staff is here for all the users, we simply can't ignore certain abuse anymore. --Jedimca0ShoutWiki Staff(talk) 15:30, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

Global banned or hub banned? And for how long? I need to know this, if he's gone, I'm in charge of autopedia.Hockeyben (talk) 15:33, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

  • It is global, I will not allow any harassment to spread around to other wikis. And right now, it is an infinite ban. I am however reasonable, so if he ever does calm down and wishes to talk, he is always welcome to email me. I can however not make any promises, he will have to prove that his attitude changed and will remain changed, and even then it will not be easy. I, and the rest of staff, have been tolerant recently because we understand the frustration, and we share it too. But at some point I simply have to draw a line, at some point certain behavior becomes unacceptable, on top of that I have also recently told Silver not to yell and swear. Both that, and the fact that the discussion was taking place right under where I had just this morning told another user (who also got banned, with one of the main reasons being verbal abuse) that resorting to verbal abuse is never an option if you want people to listen to you in situations like this, led to my decision to block Silver. --Jedimca0ShoutWiki Staff(talk) 15:47, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

Regarding Silver Knight"s block[edit source]

I feel that the global block for silver knight is not necessary. The only wiki he visits other than Autopedia is ice hockey wiki (where he is a sysop) simpsons wiki (re-block him there) and anti wikia alliance (where I am a sysop). So, I don't know if it needs to be global. Just block him on shoutwiki hub and simpsons wiki. If we lose silver, our autopedia community would be ripped to shreds. If you care about the welfare of autopedia, I implore you unblock him. Hockeyben (talk) 00:32, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi again. I just finished talking with silver knight. And he said he will be on his best behavior and won't swear at anyone again. If he does, he will be fine being infinitely blocked. Hockeyben (talk) 02:04, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

  • I will have to discuss this with the admins over at Simpsons before promising anything. I would also like it if Silver were to contact me via email, he can contact me at 0acmidejmoc.ikiwtuohs . I can not promise he will be instantly unbanned, but depending on his email I might be willing to shorten his block considerably. --Jedimca0ShoutWiki Staff(talk) 19:54, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

I'll pass this on to Silver. I don't know if it matters with wikisimpsons, you could just re-block him there if admins don;t want him. (He never edits there anyway). --Hockeyben (talk) 20:34, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

Been In contact with silver… he said he emailed you. Have you reached a decision yet? Hockeyben (talk) 17:57, 12 May 2011 (UTC)

  • I have replied to his email and he has been unblocked under the condition that he watches his temper and doesn't yells and swears at people. I really appreciate your mediation in this matter, keep up the good work. --Jedimca0ShoutWiki Staff(talk) 19:07, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
Now just to get that global block log made public ;) Ajraddatz (Talk) 00:43, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Thanks... --Silver Knight (talk) 01:27, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
  • I know Ajr, I know... it's on the list.
And no problem Silver, keep to the terms I gave you in the email and you will be more then fine. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. --Jedimca0ShoutWiki Staff(talk) 09:32, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I understand. Is staff still working on recovering on Autopedia and Simpsons Fanon? --Silver Knight (talk) 10:55, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
  • The techs are still working on a solution, yes. I also heard about possibly making an import script for autopedia per the original request, but I'll have to check to be sure about that. --Jedimca0ShoutWiki Staff(talk) 11:07, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
Well, if you can recover it back to normal, then you don't need to write an import script. --Silver Knight (talk) 11:27, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
If I wan't to change my account name, is it possible that you could change it without me creating a new one and losing my thousands of edits? --Silver Knight (talk) 11:31, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

I told misza to still try and recover it if possible. If it cant be recovered then he can write the importing script. Could you pass this information on? Hockeyben (talk) 13:36, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

Madclaw[edit source]

Maybe i'd be nice and honest if you blocked him. Take a look at this and this. --Silver Knight (talk) 12:56, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

  1. As far as my userpage goes, it's fully sourced and I'm just showing people whats already there so it does not break any policies.
  2. Jedimca0 can't block me on Shoutwiki for what I'm doing on another website.
  3. jedimca0's real name is Mitchel, please address him as Mr Mitchel from here on.
  4. You still have not appologized to me
  5. Beaver
  6. Number 5 has nothing to do with this situation but I just felt like saying "beaver"
  7. In fact it feels so good that I'm going to say "beaver" again.

Good day sir Madclaw Talk 15:07, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

If I apologize to you will you promise for a truce? --Silver Knight (talk) 15:09, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
Even if you say "Meh", those articles don't bother me at all. This is just a computer. What is there to be afraid of? More of your dumb articles? Truth is, I don't give a damn what you do one way or another. In fact, I just started laughfing at the gay pictures and your userpage. I DON'T care. You don't even know what my name is. --Silver Knight (talk) 15:13, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
OK, Madclaw, what you have done could be considered as cyber bullying by some people. I'm asking you to delete the article as it is wrong what you have done. I know I have no power over you either here or on Darthipedia but I'm just asking you to do the right thing. Silver Knight, try and stay calm. I'm sure that you don't like the article and there's no need to pretend that it doesn't anger you. I would be angry if someone was to do something like that to me. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 15:19, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
I invite you come to Darthipedia and continue this discussion, so that we keep Shoutwiki clean of this. Madclaw Talk 15:25, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

Mr. Mitchel? I'd definitely call him that in real life. But on the interent is Jedimca0. --Hockeyben (talk) 15:38, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

Silver Knight, Madclaw, maybe it's better that you guys /ignore each other for the time being. Arguments like this are counterproducive and likely to achieve nothing. I'd suggest you both take a look at our list of wikis and find a wiki or two that you're interested in and start contributing!
And before you ask, yes, I'm sure that everyone is familiar with Autopedia and your relation to that wiki. We're still trying to recover the data, although from what I've heard, it isn't looking too good. We agree with you that it'd be a shame to see such a big wiki basically go down the drain, which is why we're doing everything we can to save Autopedia. I know that I would be pissed off if one of my wikis were to crash like Autopedia — but there is no justification for language like this. I can understand why Madclaw is annoyed.
I believe that I'm not mistaken when I say that it's very rare that we overturn a ShoutWiki-wide block. I think it was very nice of Jedimca0 to give you another chance. Please return the courtesy by not getting banned again. --Jack Phoenix (talk) 15:50, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

@Jack Autopedia is not necessarily going down the drain. I've spoken with Misza about writing an importing script to get content from Wikicars (Not sure if you remember) to Autopedia. Which we had been doing manually. --Hockeyben (talk) 16:10, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

All I have to do is change my account. --Silver Knight (talk) 01:41, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

Your talk page[edit source]

Archive it. It's getting way tl;dr. --Jack Phoenix (talk) 15:50, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
