Log-in/out error[edit source]

I seem to be periodically logging in and logging out during page changes. 150.203.222.179 12:34, 5 March 2011 (UTC) There see it happened again. Escyos

Do you have the "remember me" option enabled? If not, that could be a reason why you're being logged out...if the problem persists, please report it on our Bugzilla. Be sure to include details about your browser and operating system in the report, too (you can get some useful info about your computer by visiting Special:MyInfo). --Jack Phoenix ShoutWiki Staff (contact) 15:09, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

How do[edit source]

How do I invite users to a private wiki?--Potocoso (talk)

Use the Special:Invite special page. A log of invitations (and the removal of invitations) is kept at Special:Log/invite. --Jack Phoenix ShoutWiki Staff (contact) 15:09, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
see,I do ,but i look not .--Potocoso (talk) 04:26, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
It was missing from your wiki for some odd reason. I've added it so it should work now. --Jack Phoenix ShoutWiki Staff (contact) 23:31, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

Gallery[edit source]

I have made a gallery for my wiki. How do I get a fifth picture to appear on the first row? That way, it can cover the whole line of the main page columns. Thanks --Hockeyben - Talk 16:50, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

Adding perrow=5 to the gallery tag should work, ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 17:28, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

I tried this, and I wasn't able to get it to work. Would you (or Jack) mind going over there, and trying to get it to work? The 5 images are in the gallery on the Main page. --Hockeyben - Talk 21:39, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

Worked for me. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 21:42, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

Center[edit source]

How do I get the News Feed on s:w:icehockey to appear in the middle of the page? I've tried some methods that have worked for other parts of the page, but not for the RSS News Feed. --Hockeyben - Talk 20:33, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

Is that what you wanted? ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 21:26, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

Perfect. Thanks. --Hockeyben - Talk 22:11, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

SUBPAGENAME and BASEPAGENAME issue.[edit source]

Hi Jack,
I think there is a big issue with the BASEPAGENAME and The SUBPAGENAME magic words in ShoutWiki in general. For an example, you see this page as normaly his BASEPAGENAME equals to "Str left" but not here. It equals "Str left/doc". That makes a big issue for transcluded pages and with templates which has to find the BASEPAGENAME. That was a problem I noticed month ago with Stargate Wiki. Do you have an answer for this?
Thanks. Regards. --LIMAFOX76 26 février 2011 à 10:30 (UTC)

Replied on s:w:fr:Discussion utilisateur:Jack Phoenix#SUBPAGENAME and BASEPAGENAME issue.. --Jack Phoenix ShoutWiki Staff (contact) 17:56, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
I think you are not permit a template page to have a SUBPAGE. In other page ,such as User_talk:Summerking/SUBPAGE, BASEPAGENAME work well. And it will diaplay a tagline "< User talk:Summerking" to let visitor go back to the 'parent' page. But in template page, it's not. Just like what LIMAFOX76 say. So I have to use . --Summerking (talk) 21:43, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
Good catch, Summerking! I've enabled subpages in the template namespace (added NS_TEMPLATE => true to $wgNamespacesWithSubpages; now the only namespaces where subpages are not enabled are File, MediaWiki and Category), so maybe it works now. --Jack Phoenix ShoutWiki Staff (contact) 22:48, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
I consider main namespace should NOT have sub-pages, or the article like GNU/Linux_naming_controversy will be treated as the sub-page of GNU. See also Wikipedia:Subpages, and it suggest a temp pages(workpages) should be the sub-page of talk namespace, e.g. Talk:Example Article/Temp. --Summerking (talk) 11:28, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
I consider page names like GNU/Linux naming controversy as edge cases; it's possible that such problems occur, but relatively rare. If I were to turn off subpages in the main namespace, I'd assume that soon either my talk page or Bugzilla or both would be filled with requests to re-enable subpages in the main namespace. --Jack Phoenix ShoutWiki Staff (contact) 13:56, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
Hi Jack,
is it possible to enable sub-pages on my different wikies in the added NAMESPACES (Episode, etc.). Thanks. --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 21:21, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
Hi Jack,
I think you will have to do once again the activation of all my wikis added NAMESPACES subpages due to server crashdown. Sorry. Regards. --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 21:48, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
Subpages should be enabled for the custom namespaces which count towards the article count (see MediaWiki.org for the technical details) in s:w:fr.24, s:w:fr.stargate, s:w:eureka and s:w:fr.eureka. Let me know if I've missed a namespace and I'll fix it! --Jack Phoenix ShoutWiki Staff (contact) 01:17, 4 May 2011 (MSD)

Autopedia?[edit source]

Where the fuck is Autopedia? Everyone's out there smiling and happy editing, except for Autopedia. We've lost over 5 weeks of car updates. Autopedia is one ShoutWiki's biggest and important wiki. I hope Autopedia is back up because I am just about to explode. --Silver Knight (talk) 05:37, 3 May 2011 (MSD)

  • The techs are looking into those issues, I will ask for an update. --Jedimca0ShoutWiki Staff(talk) 21:39, 3 May 2011 (MSD)
    • Also, using the word fuck will not make things any faster, I know this from experience since I have used that word towards Wikia a many times and it never made anything faster or better. Just saying. Madclaw Talk 21:41, 3 May 2011 (MSD)

Silver's just frustrated with the situation, I am too. --Hockeyben (talk) 22:37, 3 May 2011 (MSD)

I can understand your frustration, and believe me, I was frustrated, too! The downtime was a lot longer than we even dared to imagine, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
As for Autopedia, Misza is the tech working on that — please ask him for the current status of the project. --Jack Phoenix ShoutWiki Staff (contact) 01:17, 4 May 2011 (MSD)

Premium skins[edit source]

I really like the nimbus skin. When will it and the other premium skins become available? Thx Hockeyben (talk) 06:24, 3 May 2011 (MSD)

Oops, almost forgot. What is the extension you wrote that was only available in 1.16? I'm really curious about it! Hockeyben (talk) 06:25, 3 May 2011 (MSD)

We hope that we'll be able to finalize the details on premium features during this summer.
As for that extension I wrote, it'll need a bit of reviewing and given that it passes the review, it'll be installed here for testing and assuming that no outstanding issues will be found, it'll be then available for other wikis, too. Stay tuned! --Jack Phoenix ShoutWiki Staff (contact) 01:17, 4 May 2011 (MSD)

Problem in regards to creating a wiki.[edit source]

Every time I try to create a wiki, it presents me with an error message, I go back and try to change things, but it still presents me with the same message. Although that is not entirely true, there have been two different messages I have encountered. It says that it's a syntax error? I can't understand the problem, and would greatly appreciate it if you would help me figure out what I'm doing wrong? Thank you, --Legion (talk) 00:51, 4 May 2011 (MSD)

Hi Legion, you're not doing anything wrong. There's a bug in our wiki creation tool and Skizzerz from our tech team is fixing it as we speak. Once he's done fixing, the tool should work properly again. You may want to stop by our IRC channel, #ShoutWiki on irc.shoutwiki.com — many staff members, Skizzerz and myself included, are there. --Jack Phoenix ShoutWiki Staff (contact) 01:17, 4 May 2011 (MSD)

Alright I will, thanks. --Legion (talk) 01:35, 4 May 2011 (MSD)

Problem with a wiki creation[edit source]

Hi, I dont know where to turn, so I write here. I am founder of Historica Wiki, then I tried to create Empire beyond the Stars Wiki, but I failed. My first attempt failed with some (I dont remember which) error message, then I tried three more times with this error message:

A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:
CREATE DATABASE ebts_wiki
from within function "". Database returned error "1007: Can't create database 'ebts_wiki'; database exists (localhost)".

So I assumed, that first creation failed, but shoutwiki still thinks, that it is created (when I tried to use url www.ebts.shoutwiki.com, it results in No such wiki page) and it wont allow to recreate it. Now, if I try create new wiki, it just says that You have already created 5 wikis. You cannot create any more., which isnt clearly true, because I created one functional and one functionless and made another three attempts to recreated it. What now? --Silesianus (talk) 11:28, 4 May 2011 (MSD)

Eh, I just read post above... Sorry for my post. --Silesianus (talk) 11:34, 4 May 2011 (MSD)

Wiki Adoption[edit source]

I would be interested in adopting football wiki. What are the requirements for adopting? --Hockeyben (talk) 23:36, 4 May 2011 (MSD)

There are no formal requirements for adoption. I'd suggest contacting the founder of the wiki on their talk page, and if they don't reply within a week, I can give you admin/bureaucrat/steward rights to the wiki — you're a trusted user, I see no reason why you couldn't adopt the wiki. I'm sure you'll be able to make the wiki awesome! --Jack Phoenix ShoutWiki Staff (contact) 15:03, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

As per letting LIMAFOX76 take the stargate domain, to that i say NO. Read | your comment and if need be i can get the other active users who used that site to vote to take it down. If LIMAFOX76 wants it he can re-create it afterwards. Dont become like Wikia and refuse to do so, look what happened when they did that. Escyos (talk) 05:18, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

It's for the communitys behalf. And limafox is part of the community. Just saying.Hockeyben (talk) 05:25, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

10 NON-mainspace edits, 5 of which were last year doesnt really make him a great part of the community. I put in hours as did others. He has a stargate wiki and his english is terrible so why would he want an english one. Escyos (talk) 05:30, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Is my English so terrible? I'm sorry. I will try to improve it. --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 14:40, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Ok after a few drinks, I've decided that the wikis should be left here so that wikia can die a slow painful death. LETS KILL WIKIA! WOOOOOO! Escyos (talk) 09:10, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Wow. You must REALLY hate wikia.Hockeyben (talk) 14:21, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Please take a look at our terms of use, which you have accepted by using the site and creating wikis on ShoutWiki.
Archaelogy is a subject that many people study in universities across the globe; Arrested Development, Dark Angel, Smallville, Stargate and Veronica Mars are popular TV shows that are shown across the globe, even in places like Finland! As a matter of fact, I've watched most of those shows and I've liked most of them, too. It'd be quite selfish to think that you're the only person who is allowed to like these series and/or make a wiki about them. The situation might be a bit different if the wikis in question would be in a language other than English, but alas, they're not; English is one of the most spoken languages in the world.
As for LIMAFOX76, he's a helpful user and the founder of the French Stargate wiki. Sure, he's not a native speaker of English, but then again, neither am I. If you're saying that his English is terrible, I guess that you've been dealing with only native speakers of English, then. --Jack Phoenix ShoutWiki Staff (contact) 15:03, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
...that are shown across the globe, even in places like Finland! Wow, you must really be a patriot! And one small advice, don't want to learn Czech (you have written it on you user page), it's terrible (hard) and complicated language. Best wishes --Silesianus (talk) 15:13, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
No, it's easy and funny. :P Greetings from Poland! Misiek (talk) 05:10, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
Yes, if you are Pole or Slovak, but Finn? Greetings from Czechia! --Silesianus (talk) 06:38, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
Can't say that Greek, Japanese or Polish would be that easy, either — but I like challenges! ;-) And some people that I know say that Finnish is terribly difficult...I guess they do have a point after all, heh. --Jack Phoenix ShoutWiki Staff (contact) 14:13, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

So what your saying is that you won't delete the wikis i have asked or rather those where I was the only editor because someone MIGHT one day use them? Chances are if someone took them over they would change all the content, mediawiki pages, skins etc so it would be like creating another wiki. All this shows is that your promises appear to have no standing whatsoever (e.g. [1]). Escyos (talk) 10:39, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

You said this 'After a few drinks, I've decided the wikis should be left here. LETS kill wikia WOO! so you basically said you want them left here.Hockeyben (talk) 12:51, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

Escyos, you accepted the terms of use when you created an account. If you didn't bother reading through the ToU page, that is not my problem. So please don't blame me for that.
As for the wikis you created...I'd say that the emphasis is on the wikis rather than on you. You've moved on and that's okay. Why should it have any effect on the Dark Angel, Stargate or Veronica Mars fans on ShoutWiki? Other people are allowed to like those TV series and they also can build a wiki about them.
Most of the wikis you started are licensed under the CC-BY-SA license, just like Wikipedia and countless other wiki sites, which means that while you own the copyright to the original content you've written, you allow the site to use it under the terms of the CC-BY-SA license.
You pretty much claim that I'm a liar, which is surprising, considering the facts — we've closed plenty of wikis at the request of their creators and/or communities and we will continue doing that if it's what the situation requires. You've moved on, which is why I find it rather surprising that you care about what wikis people over here edit. Even if I would've agreed to your demands, what would you have done when someone would've created a new Stargate wiki (for example) at stargate.shoutwiki.com? Would you have demanded that it should be deleted immediately because you once had a wiki under that URL?
To quote a fellow MediaWiki developer, "creating a wiki is like creating a baby, yes you should have a good reason to create one, but if you don't for whatever reason, you should have an _extra_ good reason for killing one". --Jack Phoenix (talk) 14:25, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
  • I would like to add that if a wiki (the community) decides to move, we will help them in any way, shape or form that we can. We have closed more then a few wikis when it was requested by the community/admins in the past and we will not stop doing it. However, in case of wikis where the founder just leaves and there is still considerable interest in having the wiki on ShoutWiki we can not and will not let one person decide for a whole community. Look at the Stargate wiki for example, if we deleted that several people would be more angry then you are now. I have personally talked to a few people who seem very interested in keeping the wiki. --Jedimca0ShoutWiki Staff(talk) 14:40, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

we've closed plenty of wikis at the request of their creators and/or communities, what about those wikis i created that i was the only editor? (which was quite a few) why aren't they removed, i've seen plenty of wikis removed because the creator requested it and the creator stayed. I think this is merely because I left/am leaving, that you are treating me this way. Way to become another Wikia clone! You had potential but you simply refuse to accept the change and now you are wikia. Escyos (talk) 14:34, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

  • It is not because you left, it is because when you left other people showed interest in keeping the wikis around. We don't want to delete something that will be recreated the next day. We are currently looking into what can or can't go. I have a feeling some of the wikis won't be around long, others will. --Jedimca0ShoutWiki Staff(talk) 14:59, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

Updates for Stargate Wiki[edit source]

Hi Jack,
I don't if the contact email worked, but is it possible please to add some stuff for Stargate Wiki?

  • Namespaces:
    • Episode (to be counted on statistics)
    • Mythology (to be counted on statistics)
    • Spoiler (to be counted on statistics)
    • Interview (to be counted on statistics)
    • Portal (to be excluded from statistics)
    • Project (to be excluded from statistics)
  • Install the Semantic MediaWiki extension
  • Enable subpages.

Thank you very much. --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 08:25, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi LIMAFOX76, I've added these new namespaces (numbers range from 160 to 171), enabled subpages for the namespaces which are counted as content (Episode, Mythology, Spoiler and Interview) and enabled Semantic MediaWiki. Let me know if I forgot something or you need any further help! --Jack Phoenix ShoutWiki Staff (contact) 14:13, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

Did you enable subpages for mainspace and template namespaces? --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 16:48, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
Subpages are enabled for the following namespaces globally (=in all ShoutWiki wikis): main, Talk, User, User talk, Project, Project talk, File talk, MediaWiki talk, Template, Template talk, Help, Help talk and Category talk. --Jack Phoenix ShoutWiki Staff (contact) 16:53, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
Thank you very much Jack. --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 16:55, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi, can I ask for some updates on my Historica Wiki? If it is possible, I would like to have Dokument namespace added (not countable if possible). --Silesianus (talk) 17:14, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

Done. Dokument namespace has the internal ID number of 130 and Dokument_diskuse has the ID of 131 and pages in the Dokument NS are not counted towards content count on Special:Statistics. --Jack Phoenix ShoutWiki Staff (contact) 17:21, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

Sysop powers on awa[edit source]

Hi jack. I had been granted sysop powers on AWA before the crash, and they were lost. I contacted the admin to ask him to re-grant them four days ago, and I recieved no response. Could you grant me sysop powers there? --Hockeyben (talk) 17:27, 6 May 2011 (UTC)

WikiForum[edit source]

Wow! really cool feature. Is that the extension you were talking about? --Hockeyben (talk) 17:27, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

Yes! Finally a proper discussion forum for MediaWikis! It has a few rough edges, but I'm still gonna say that it's a lot better than most of the pre-existing forum solutions for MediaWiki (such as the DPLforum extension, various bridges with "real" forums, i.e. phpBB, Invision Power Board, vBulletin, etc.). And I won't be pinged every time someone posts something on WikiForum! ;-) --Jack Phoenix (talk) 17:32, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

I would love to have this feature enabled for s:w:icehockey, but I can't find the Special:WikiForum page. Does this need to be activated upon request? --Hockeyben (talk) 17:37, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

  • Right now the feature is undergoing final testing, here on Hub, after that it will be available on request. We have tested it privately on a separate wiki, as well as publicly on Jedipedia. Right now we want to do some final testing here on hub, where it will be more actively used to make sure there are no remaining bugs. --Jedimca0ShoutWiki Staff(talk) 17:46, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

We've waited way too long. You've acerbated me. I am furious with you all right now. If this goes on to 60 days +, I will blow up whether you like it or not. We've currently lost the 2012 Volkswagen New Beelte, Jaguar C-X75, Porsche Panamera Diesel, and more. But who friggin cares right? --Silver Knight (talk) 08:54, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
@Silver Knight, I've been getting updates frequently via IRC. The only problem is, there is nothing to update. They have tried a few things to no avail. i know you're angry, but you can't do anything. If you "blow up", all that'll happen is that you get a block for a few days.
@Hockeyben, Misza rarely replies to talk page comments. Don't take it personally. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 10:10, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

This is exactly the problem here. Communication is not great, unless your on irc. I tried, but my login won't work. Solar dragon, could you keep me and silver knight updated on the forum I made here on the hub regarding AP? Hockeyben (talk) 12:53, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

You don't need to log in to use IRC, just change your nick when you go on it. Anyway, I'll keep you updated with any information I get. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 21:33, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
