Help:Logging in
Although recommended, logging in is not required for viewing pages, and not even for editing them. However, it provides additional features in which anonymous users do not have. It hides your IP address; if you do not want your IP address to be known, then you should log in. The process of creating of an account is simple and fast.

Logging in
Creating a user account means that you supply a username (your real name or a nickname) and a password. The system will reject a username that is already in use. A user account is created only once. You are then "logged in". Next time you log in you supply your username again and demonstrate with the password that you are the same person.
Edits you make are recorded under your username. If you are not logged in, your edits are recorded under your IP address.
What if I forget the username?
If you have forgotten your ShoutWiki username, there are steps that may help you recover it:
- Depending on your browser settings, you may find that the log in page redisplays the last username that was used on that computer.
- If you remember any of the pages you have edited, their edit history may display your username.
- If you've received any e-mails from ShoutWiki, these will include your username.
- If you remember the first part of your username, Special:ListUsers may help you remember the rest of it.
If none of these steps successfully recovered your username, you will have to create a new account. ShoutWiki staff will not be able to help you recover your username from your e-mail address.
What if I forget the password?
If you possess a confirmed e-mail address in your preferences, you can click the "Forgotten your login details?" button and enter your username when desired to. This will send a temporary password to your e-mail, which will expire in seven days.
If you do not have a confirmed e-mail address, or if the e-mail address stored in your preferences is no longer accessible, you will not be able to regain access to your account, and will have to create a new one.
Preferences
Clicking on the My preferences link at the top right of the page allows you to set your personal preferences, including changing your password, and changing the skin. See also Help:Preferences.
Your user page and user talk page
As a registered user, you have your own user page and talk page. Many users use their user pages to write about themselves. User talk pages are for communication purposes.
How do I log out?
Clicking the "log out" link at the top right of the page will log you out; you can continue to edit and read the wiki as an anonymous user.
How do I keep my account secure?
All users, especially administrators, should keep their account secure! If your account is hacked or compromised, it may be globally blocked.
- Your password should be easy to remember but hard to guess.
- Never share your password to anyone, not even staff or admins!
- Only enter your password on ShoutWiki sites. Beware of fake sites made to compromise accounts; the domain should end with .shoutwiki.com.
- Be careful when using your account on a public computer. Some public computers can have password-stealing trojans or keyloggers installed.
- Be careful when running user scripts. Some scripts are programmed to steal cookies and thus compromise accounts.
