Help:Blocking

ShoutWiki — express yourself and be heard!
Jump to: navigation, search

Administrators can block disruptive users from editing their wiki via Special:Block. Blocking a user revokes their ability to edit any page on the wiki. It is also possible to disable that user or IP's ability to send emails via Special:EmailUser. Existing blocks can be viewed at Special:BlockList.

How to block a user

An example of the block interface being used, to block a user for removing content from a page.
  1. Go to Special:Block or click the "block" link from the Special:Contributions page of the username or IP address you wish to block.
  2. Choose block expiry time and the reason for the block from the appropriate dropdown menus
  3. Choose other options by checking/unchecking boxes below Other/additional reason, such as Prevent user from sending e-mail
  4. Press the "Block this user" button

Block reasons and expiry times

Administrators can edit the default block reasons by editing MediaWiki:Ipbreason-dropdown. The syntax is similiar to the sidebar syntax. For example:

*Common block reasons
**Not following the wiki's [[Project:Policy|policies]]
*Other block reasons
**Spamming

It is possible to change the common block expiry times by editing MediaWiki:Ipboptions. The syntax is simple: time:time, separated by commas. For example:

2 hours:2 hours, 3 days:3 days, infinite:infinite

Global blocks

ShoutWiki staff are able to block a user globally from editing, meaning from all ShoutWiki sites. It is done sparingly. If you wish to request a global block be placed on a user, please email supportAt sign.pngshoutwiki.com, stating the reasons why the user should be blocked and links to evidence. Alternatively, you can use Special:Contact to contact the staff.
