Hi!

I would like to move my two wikia hosted wikis to shoutwiki, & have been trying to get the two dump files for about a month. After emailing wikia back and forth, there appears to be something wrong with Wikia's user side dump process, and the wikia staff are not able to give me an estimate on how long the issue will take to fix.

Is there a third party program I can use to create a dump file? I am not particularly tech savy, but I am eager to move to shoutwiki.

Thank you! 72.219.185.46 05:18, 3 May 2017 (UTC)

Mediawiki has a built in way to export Wikis:
Under Special Pages -> Page Tools -> Export Pages
You can dump single pages or entire categories of pages. It does so as an XML file that can then be imported to a different mediawiki. : It's how I moved my wiki here.
The caveats are:
  1. You have to add a category to all your pages.
  2. It doesn't export images or media, only the text, so you have to have a copy of all the images/media outside the wiki.

Apparently too many people were getting dumps, so Wikia has restricted dumping to admins. --Saftzie (talk) 22:45, 19 May 2017 (UTC)
Category exports still work though. Both here and on Wikia. Special:Export. I have a hidden "Export" category on my Shoutwiki wiki for a few pages I like to back up now and then. --Timeshifter (talk) 06:47, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
